BY PAUL JANKOWSKI, NEW HEARTLAND GROUP

The United States Census Bureau lists the Midwestern states as Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, and Iowa. For the South, it names Delaware (huh?), Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

I would largely agree that most of these states are included in the New Heartland, with respect to their lifestyle and core values. There are a few exceptions, though, that we should address.
